AUSTRALIA will become the focus of the golfing world later this month when the PGA of Australia hosts the 2008 World PGA’s Summit. From April 25-28 approximately 30 international PGA delegates will be in Australia to discuss a wide range of issues affecting PGA's around the world. Chief Executives and Senior Executives from the PGAs of America, Great Britain & Ireland, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Sweden, Japan and South Africa will attend. Economic impact studies will be addressed over the four days, as will trademark issues, growth of the game initiatives, research strategies and models to foster broader industry relations. Summit sessions will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney and at Royal Sydney Golf Club. A number of the delegates will also travel to the PGA of Australia’s National Office at the Sandhurst Club in Melbourne during their stay.THE US economy may be struggling but Tiger Woods has landed a new multi-million dollar title sponsor for his off-season World Challenge tournament in southern California, signing a five-year deal on Thursday with Chevron. The event raises money and develops programs to support Woods’ education-based Tiger Woods Foundation. The Chevron World Challenge will be held December 18-21 at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California, featuring a world-class field of 16 players competing for a $5.75 million purse, the largest of the silly season. Woods, the tournament host, is the defending champion. Chevron replaces Target as the title sponsor.
Geoff Ogilvy heads into this week’s Masters as the highest ranked Australian player according to the Official World Rankings. In the latest rankings, Ogilvy (5) now sits ahead of Adam Scott (8) who has fallen back three positions. Prior to this week Ogilvy's previous best ranking was No.7 which came after he won the US Open back in 2006. Having a near perfect lead up to the Masters, Ogilvy finished second in the Houston Open last weekend. Only a fortnight earlier Ogilvy put an end to Tiger Woods’ WGC domination, taking out the WGC CA Championship. According to the Official World Rankings, there are six other Australians in the top 50, including Aaron Baddeley (20) and Stuart Appleby (26.)
